Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) have finally secured their long-awaited UEFA Champions League crown with a stunning 5–0 demolition of Inter Milan at the Allianz Arena in Munich. The resounding victory not only sealed PSG’s first Champions League title but also entered the history books as the biggest winning margin in a final since the tournament’s inception.
While the final was billed as a clash of European heavyweights, the one-sided affair left many fans disillusioned—some even insisting that the real final had been PSG’s semi-final battle with Arsenal, which had delivered far more drama and competition.
Désiré Doué Shines Bright
At the heart of PSG’s triumph was 19-year-old Désiré Doué, who put on a masterclass in composure and creativity. Doué scored twice and provided an assist, earning the Man of the Match award. He also etched his name into history as the youngest player (19 years, 362 days) to both score and assist in a Champions League final—joining an exclusive group of just six players to have ever achieved the feat.
“It’s a dream come true,” said Doué post-match. “To help this club make history at such a young age is something I will never forget.”
A Dominant Display
PSG were in total control from start to finish, recording 23 shots (8 on target) and enjoying 59% possession. Inter Milan struggled to mount a meaningful challenge, with only 8 shots (2 on target) and 41% possession, sparking criticism from fans over what many labeled an “embarrassing performance” in such a prestigious fixture.
A Treble-Winning Season
The victory capped off a historic treble for PSG, who had already claimed the Ligue 1 and Coupe de France titles earlier in the season. Manager Luis Enrique added another feather to his cap, becoming only the second coach in history to win two European trebles—his first coming with Barcelona in 2015.
A New Era for PSG
This landmark win also underscores PSG’s successful strategic shift toward a younger, more balanced squad following the departure of their previous marquee trio. With a fresh core of emerging talent, the club has not only silenced critics but firmly positioned itself among Europe’s elite.
What’s Next?
As Champions League winners, PSG will now face Tottenham Hotspur, the 2024–25 UEFA Europa League champions, in the 2025 UEFA Super Cup—a matchup already generating considerable excitement.
For now, though, the night belongs to Paris. And for Inter Milan, a painful reminder that at the top level of football, there's little room for error.
