Former Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala has issued a strong statement on the state of the nation, declaring that the official opposition’s core agenda is the immediate removal of President William Ruto from office, citing widespread dissatisfaction with his leadership.
Speaking during a press conference in Nairobi, Malala, a vocal political figure and influential voice within Kenya’s opposition movement, said the time had come for Kenyans to unite in demanding accountability, justice, and a complete political reset.
“As the official opposition in this country, our agenda is one: Ruto Must Go,” Malala stated emphatically. “Then, and only then, can Kenya begin to recover and move forward under new leadership that respects the rule of law, protects public resources, and restores dignity to the common mwananchi.”
The former senator accused the Kenya Kwanza administration of presiding over economic mismanagement, growing public debt, suppression of civil liberties, and failure to address the high cost of living affecting millions of Kenyans.
“Every promise made to hustlers has been broken. What we are witnessing today is not leadership—it is betrayal,” he said.
Malala urged opposition supporters, civil society groups, and ordinary Kenyans to remain steadfast, peaceful, and united in the call for change, emphasizing that the movement was not just about political power but about reclaiming the soul of the nation.
“This is not about positions or parties—it is about the people of Kenya. It is about their suffering, their stolen dreams, and their right to a government that serves, not exploits,” he added.
While Malala did not reveal specific timelines or methods for advancing the opposition’s agenda, he hinted at nationwide mobilization efforts that would unfold in the coming weeks, promising to unveil a “people-driven roadmap” for political transition.
The remarks are expected to intensify political temperatures across the country, as President Ruto's administration continues to defend its economic and social policies amid growing criticism from both political rivals and members of the public.
