Political tensions flared in Narok County on Monday, June 2, 2025, after Governor Patrick Ole Ntutu publicly accused Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot of meddling in the county’s internal affairs and undermining his leadership.
Speaking at a public event attended by local leaders and residents, Governor Ntutu strongly criticized the Kericho County Senator for what he described as “provocative and unnecessary interference” in Narok’s political landscape.
“Senator Cheruiyot came here and insulted me in front of my people,” said Ntutu. “I was elected by the people of Narok, and I do not need lectures from someone who doesn’t even represent this county.”
The fallout reportedly stems from a recent meeting held by Senator Cheruiyot with leaders from Narok East, during which the senator is alleged to have made remarks perceived as belittling and disrespectful toward the governor. While details of the remarks have not been publicly disclosed, sources close to the county leadership say they were viewed as undermining Ntutu’s authority and igniting unnecessary political friction.
Governor Ntutu accused the senator of harboring political motives aimed at sowing division in the county in the lead-up to the 2027 general election.
“I want to tell him clearly—Narok has its leaders, and we are fully capable of managing our political affairs,” Ntutu declared. “We do not need outsiders coming in to dictate or divide us.”
The remarks were met with loud applause from residents and local leaders in attendance, many of whom voiced support for the governor and called for respect for Narok’s elected leadership.
Senator Cheruiyot has yet to respond publicly to the accusations.
The dispute highlights growing inter-county political tensions within the Rift Valley region, where power dynamics and succession politics ahead of 2027 are beginning to take shape. Political analysts warn that early confrontations between leaders may intensify unless mechanisms for dialogue and mutual respect are reinforced.
