Police have arrested four male suspects and recovered a plastic revolver during a late-night operation in Nairobi, following a tip-off from members of the public.
The incident occurred at around 1:25 a.m. on Tuesday along Kenyatta Avenue, where officers on routine night patrol intercepted a vehicle at a petrol station after reports that one of its occupants had been seen brandishing what appeared to be a firearm.
Upon conducting a search of the vehicle and its occupants, police recovered a plastic revolver, six rubber bullets, and a knife inscribed with the label "AK47". The four men, all of whom appeared intoxicated at the time of arrest, were taken into custody for further questioning.
“The suspects were behaving suspiciously, and public vigilance played a key role in enabling our officers to act swiftly,” said a police spokesperson. “We commend the members of the public who came forward with information.”
The vehicle has been impounded as investigations continue. Authorities are working to determine the suspects’ intentions and whether the imitation firearm was used in any criminal activity.
The arrests come amid heightened police patrols across Nairobi aimed at curbing a recent rise in incidents involving imitation weapons and public disturbances.
Police have urged the public to continue reporting any suspicious behavior, emphasizing that public cooperation remains vital to maintaining security in the city.
