Governor Bii: Luo Council of Elders Installation a Symbol of Unity and Inclusivity in Uasin Gishu

Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii has hailed the installation ceremony of the Luo Council of Elders in Eldoret as a powerful affirmation of Kenya’s cultural diversity, unity, and the critical role of elders in shaping societal values and cohesion.

Speaking during the colorful event attended by elders, residents, and top national leaders, Governor Bii emphasized that elders are not just custodians of tradition but pillars of wisdom, community leadership, and generational continuity.

“Elders are the respected pillars of our society — guardians of wisdom, culture, and heritage,” Bii said. “Today’s installation is more than a ceremony. It is a celebration of unity, identity, and the leadership that holds our communities together.”

The installation of the Luo Council of Elders took place in Eldoret, reflecting the county’s cosmopolitan nature and commitment to inclusive governance. Governor Bii underscored that Uasin Gishu’s strength lies in its diversity, and that every community, regardless of origin, has a place and voice in shaping the county’s future.

“Uasin Gishu is a home to all. We stand for inclusivity at every level — cultural, social, and political. This county will continue to support all communities that call it home,” he affirmed.

The ceremony was graced by prominent leaders, including Treasury Cabinet Secretary Hon. John Mbadi, Kapseret MP Hon. Oscar Sudi, and several elders and community representatives from across the region.

In his remarks, CS John Mbadi lauded the role of elders in fostering peace and harmony, noting that in times of national and local tension, it is often elders who step in to offer wise counsel and resolve conflicts.

“We must value our elders not just in rituals, but in governance, mediation, and nation-building,” Mbadi said.

Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi added that cultural events like the installation of the Luo elders are critical in promoting intercommunal respect, especially in counties with ethnic diversity.

“When we come together like this, we are teaching the younger generation that identity and unity are not enemies — they go hand in hand.”

Governor Bii reiterated that his administration remains focused on promoting peaceful coexistence, enhancing inter-community dialogue, and leveraging cultural diversity as a strength rather than a source of division.“As we celebrate our elders today, we also recommit ourselves to the values they stand for — peace, integrity, respect, and unity in diversity.”

The event ended with traditional blessings, cultural performances, and a renewed call for continued collaboration between county leadership, communities, and national leaders to strengthen Kenya’s social fabric.
