Governor Bii Calls on Treasury to Fund Completion of Sixty Four Stadium

Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii Chelilim has made a passionate appeal to the National Treasury, urging Cabinet Secretary Hon. John Mbadi to allocate additional funds towards the completion of the iconic Sixty Four Stadium in Eldoret.

Speaking at the Kapseret Economic Empowerment Forum organized by Kapseret MP Hon. Oscar Sudi, Governor Bii highlighted the critical role the stadium plays in the region’s social and economic transformation. He emphasized that the completion of the Sixty Four Stadium is not just a matter of infrastructure, but a key investment in youth, sports development, and job creation.

“This stadium is more than a sports facility; it is a symbol of hope and an engine for economic growth,” Governor Bii stated. “Once completed, Sixty Four Stadium will nurture local athletic talent, attract national and international events, and open up opportunities for hundreds of our youth.”

The governor noted that despite significant progress in construction, budgetary constraints have stalled the final phases of the project. He called upon the Treasury to prioritize the allocation in the upcoming supplementary budget, underscoring the urgency of the matter.

> “Uasin Gishu is home to world-class athletes and passionate youth who deserve modern facilities to train and compete,” he added. “With the right support, this stadium will not only serve our county but also contribute to the national sports agenda.”

Kapseret MP Hon. Oscar Sudi echoed Governor Bii’s sentiments and pledged to push for more funding at the parliamentary level, saying that the stadium’s completion would be a game-changer for the region.

The Sixty Four Stadium, named in honor of the iconic Route 64 that links Eldoret to other major towns, has long been envisioned as a premier sports destination in the Rift Valley.

Governor Bii reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to investing in sports and youth empowerment and called on stakeholders from both government and the private sector to partner in transforming Uasin Gishu into a sports and economic powerhouse.
