The Eldoret National Polytechnic had the honour of hosting a high-level delegation from the Uasin Gishu County Department of Gender and Social Protection, as part of preparations for the upcoming International Albinism Awareness Day (IAAD), set to be commemorated in Eldoret on June 13, 2025.
The delegation was led by Chief Officer Marion Birgen (immediate third left after the Chief Principal), accompanied by Hellen Tuwei, County Director of Social Development (CDSO) for Uasin Gishu, and Kimutai Bowen, CDSO for Trans Nzoia County.
The team was warmly received by Chief Principal Dr. Charles Koech, alongside members of the Polytechnic’s senior management, faculty, and student leadership.
The visit focused on fostering collaboration between the institution and the county government in support of the IAAD celebrations. This year’s theme centers on promoting the rights, inclusion, and welfare of persons with albinism, as well as raising public awareness on the challenges they face.
In her remarks, Chief Officer Marion Birgen highlighted the importance of community partnerships in advocacy and inclusion efforts. “International Albinism Awareness Day is a powerful reminder that everyone deserves visibility, respect, and protection. Working with institutions like Eldoret National Polytechnic helps us amplify this message,” she said.
Dr. Charles Koech, the Chief Principal, reaffirmed the Polytechnic’s commitment to social inclusion and education. “We are honoured to contribute to such a noble cause. Our institution is a hub of learning, advocacy, and transformation, and we fully support the initiatives that promote equality and dignity for all,” he said.
The engagement also emphasized inter-county collaboration, with the presence of officials from both Uasin Gishu and Trans Nzoia Counties reflecting a shared commitment to human rights and inclusive development.
