KMTC CEO Joins Global Health Leaders at the 78th World Health Assembly

Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) CEO Dr. Kelly Oluoch joined global health leaders at the 78th World Health Assembly (WHA) held in Geneva, Switzerland. The CEO was part of the Ministry of Health delegation led by Director General Dr. Patrick Amoth, EBS, and accompanied by KMTC Board Director Dr. Hezron Omollo.
The Assembly, convened by the World Health Organization (WHO), provided a critical platform for countries to assess progress and reaffirm their commitment to strengthening health systems and achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
Dr. Oluoch was honored to deliver Kenya’s official statement, which aligned with that of Angola, speaking on behalf of the 47 Member States of the WHO Africa Region.
In the statement, Kenya reaffirmed that Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child, and Adolescent Health (RMNCAH) remains central to the health and well-being of the population. The country’s comprehensive policy and strategic framework for RMNCAH has continued to deliver measurable improvements in health outcomes, underscoring Kenya’s dedication to inclusive and equitable health service delivery.
"Our progress in RMNCAH is a testament to the effectiveness of policy-driven action and strategic investments in public health," said Dr. Oluoch.
"However, we remain vigilant and committed to tackling the persistent inequalities that continue to hinder progress for the most vulnerable populations."
Despite this progress, the delegation noted persistent disparities in achieving maternal, newborn, and under-five mortality targets.
Kenya supported the global call for accelerated efforts to address these inequalities and ensure that no one is left behind in attaining the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Kenya endorsed several key resolutions in a show of commitment to global health priorities. These included World Prematurity Day in the WHO calendar, enhancing strategies for preventing and managing preterm births, and strengthening the regulation of the digital marketing of breast milk substitutes.
Dr. Oluoch described the experience as a powerful reminder of the collective responsibility to build resilient health systems.
"Participating in the WHA not only strengthens our partnerships but also reinforces KMTC's role in advancing global health goals through quality training of health professionals," he added.
As KMTC continues to train competent and responsive health professionals, its active participation in global health forums ensures alignment with national priorities and international best practices in healthcare delivery.
