Kidnapped Baringo Teen Rescued in Coordinated Security Operation – CS Murkomen

A teenage girl who was kidnapped three days ago in Yatya, Baringo North Sub-County, has been safely rescued and is currently on her way to be reunited with her family, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has confirmed.

The girl’s rescue follows a highly coordinated operation involving security teams from the National, Regional, and Local levels, working closely with community elders and the National Police Reservists (NPR).

CS Murkomen commended the efforts of the joint security task force and particularly praised Naudo Location Chief, Mr. Japheth Pakka, for his exemplary leadership in the mission.

“I congratulate our security teams at all levels for a job well-coordinated. Special thanks to Chief Japheth Pakka, local elders, and our security officers including NPR. Their commitment ensured the safe return of the girl,” said Murkomen in a statement.

He also lauded the two communities in the area for their cooperation and support during the operation, highlighting the importance of community collaboration in addressing security threats.

Authorities have launched a manhunt for the perpetrators, with Murkomen assuring the public that the National Police Service will relentlessly pursue those responsible and bring them to justice.

In light of the incident, Murkomen has directed the County Commissioner to convene a community peace and reconciliation meeting involving leaders and residents from Baringo North and Tiaty Central Sub-Counties to address the underlying tensions believed to have contributed to the crime.

The teenage girl’s brother, who escaped from the kidnappers earlier, is also receiving care. Both siblings are being offered psychosocial support to help them recover from the traumatic ordeal.

“Considering what the children have gone through, we have arranged for counselling and, if the family agrees, we are offering to transfer them to a boarding school outside their home Sub-County where they can feel safe and focus on their education,” said the CS.

Murkomen reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring security across Baringo and other vulnerable regions, calling on residents to continue supporting law enforcement efforts in pursuit of lasting peace.
