Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has joined Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka at his Tseikuru home in Kitui County for a high-level opposition meeting aimed at strategizing against President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Kalonzo is hosting a gathering of key opposition figures from across the political spectrum, including Peoples Liberation Party (PLP) leader Martha Karua, Democratic Party leader Justin Muturi, DAP-K boss Eugene Wamalwa, among others. The meeting marks a significant step towards consolidating opposition forces.
Machakos Deputy Governor Francis Mwangangi described the meeting as a “game-changing consultative forum for opposition leaders seeking to unseat President Ruto from office.”
The timing of the meeting comes shortly after President Ruto held a major rally with over 1,600 leaders from the Ukambani region, an effort perceived as an attempt to strengthen his influence in the area traditionally known as an opposition stronghold.
Political analysts view the Kitui meeting as a move to present a united opposition front and to begin the process of identifying the most viable presidential candidate for the 2027 elections.
“This is a major consultative meeting and a gesture of goodwill as we embark on an aggressive push to lock out Kenya Kwanza from the Ukambani region,” said Deputy Governor Mwangangi.
Addressing the media last week, Kalonzo dismissed rumors that he was collaborating with the Kenya Kwanza coalition and challenged President Ruto to specify where such a meeting had allegedly taken place.
As political tensions rise, the Kitui gathering signals growing momentum among opposition leaders to counter the ruling coalition’s advances and reshape the political landscape ahead of the next general elections.
