Rebecca Miano, Cabinet Secretary for Tourism and Wildlife, today hosted Edmund Bartlett, Jamaica’s Minister for Tourism, alongside John Ololtuaa and other distinguished guests during the official opening of the 4th Global Tourism Resilience Day Conference and Expo (GTRDCE) at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre in Nairobi.
The high-level conference, officially opened by the Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya, Kithure Kindiki and represented at the event by CS Miano, has convened global policymakers, tourism experts, and industry leaders to deliberate on practical strategies for transforming tourism resilience from reactive crisis management to sustainable and impactful transformation.
The three-day conference and expo serves as a platform for knowledge exchange, innovation, and cross-border collaboration aimed at strengthening the tourism sector’s capacity to anticipate, respond to, and recover from global shocks. Participants are exploring emerging trends, risk mitigation frameworks, digital transformation, climate adaptation, and inclusive growth strategies to future-proof the industry.
In her remarks, CS Miano emphasized Kenya’s commitment to positioning itself as a leader in global tourism resilience. She highlighted the country’s proactive approach to building sustainable recovery models that not only safeguard livelihoods but also drive long-term economic growth.
Minister Bartlett, a key architect of the Global Tourism Resilience movement, underscored the importance of international cooperation in safeguarding tourism-dependent economies. He called for deeper partnerships among nations to develop unified response mechanisms and innovative financing models that can cushion the sector during crises.
The event reflects Kenya’s growing influence in shaping global tourism discourse and reinforces its dedication to fostering resilience through collaboration, innovation, and sustainable development.
As the conference progresses, stakeholders are expected to adopt actionable recommendations that will guide policy reforms and strengthen resilience frameworks across regions, ensuring tourism remains a catalyst for economic transformation even in the face of future uncertainties.
