GuardNow Security Urges Vigilance This Valentine’s Day
As Kenyans celebrate Valentine’s Day, GuardNow Security Company has issued a timely advisory, urging citizens to remain alert and prioritize personal safety. The day, often marked by love and celebration, can also present opportunities for opportunistic crimes, scams, and unsafe encounters, the company warns.
According to Dr. Peter Mwangi, CEO of GuardNow, the emotional intensity of Valentine’s Day can sometimes make people, especially those seeking attention or companionship, let their guard down. “Love should never be overshadowed by fear,” he said. “Vigilance is not paranoia — it is proactive protection. By staying alert, communicating openly, and preparing responsibly, we can ensure Valentine’s Day remains a celebration of joy, dignity, and safety for all.”
Dr. Mwangi advised the public to exercise general caution by choosing reputable, well-lit venues with visible security, avoiding the display of expensive gadgets, jewelry, or large amounts of cash, and planning safe transport in advance, whether through trusted ride apps or pre-booked taxis. For women, sharing plans with friends or family, guarding against drink tampering, and avoiding unfamiliar or secluded locations can prevent potential risks. Men are similarly cautioned to be wary of “honey trap” scams or sudden romantic advances, to limit cash transactions, and to exercise caution when encountering strangers who present themselves as love interests.
The advisory also highlighted the importance of digital safety. Online Valentine’s offers can disguise scams, while oversharing personal details, gifts, or locations on social media may expose individuals to theft or manipulation. Dr. Mwangi encouraged all citizens to keep emergency contacts accessible and to trust their instincts, leaving situations that feel unsafe immediately.
GuardNow Security says that with proper preparation and awareness, Valentine’s Day can remain a joyous occasion for all. Dr. Mwangi reiterated: “By staying vigilant and protecting ourselves and our loved ones, we can celebrate love safely while maintaining our dignity and peace of mind.”
