Blind but Unbroken: Bomet Man’s Long Battle With Chronic Illness Sparks Call for Compassion
For more than two decades, Robert Chelogoi has lived a life defined by pain, resilience, and unwavering courage. A resident of Chelemei Village in Kipreres Ward, Bomet East Sub-County, Robert’s journey is one of quiet suffering—and now, a desperate plea for hope.
Robert’s medical ordeal began in 2005 with what seemed like a minor wound on his nose. Over time, the wound worsened, developing into a deep hollow lesion that refused to heal. Years of progression and complications followed, eventually robbing him of his eyesight entirely. What started as a small health concern slowly turned into a life-altering chronic illness.
Despite the physical pain and emotional toll, Robert never gave up. He sought medical attention from various health facilities, including Longisa County Referral Hospital. As his condition deteriorated, he was referred to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret, where he underwent chemotherapy in an effort to contain the disease.
Doctors have since recommended further specialized treatment at Kenyatta National Hospital, citing the need for advanced care. However, after nearly 20 years of continuous medical expenses, Robert’s family has exhausted all available resources. The cost of treatment, travel, and daily care has pushed them to the brink.
At this critical moment, hope has come in the form of compassion.
Moved by Robert’s story, Team Strong has stepped in to support him and his family. The team is currently conducting thorough background checks and assessments, with plans to share an official update soon. Their involvement has reignited hope for a man who has endured years of uncertainty in silence.
“This is not just about one man,” a representative from Team Strong noted. “It’s about humanity, unity, and standing with those who can no longer stand on their own.”
Robert’s story is a reminder of the silent struggles faced by many Kenyans battling chronic illness, especially in rural communities where access to specialized healthcare remains limited. It is also a powerful call to action—one that asks society to respond with empathy, prayers, and tangible support.
As Robert waits for the next chapter in his treatment journey, his strength continues to inspire those who know his story.
In moments like these, every prayer matters. Every act of kindness counts.
And together, as a community, we can remind Robert Chelogoi that he is not alone.
