Deputy Governor Champions Peace and Livelihoods in Collaboration with Finn Church Aid
Deputy Governor Prof. Grace Cheserek of Elgeyo Marakwet County on Thursday hosted a delegation from Finn Church Aid (FCA), highlighting the county government’s commitment to peacebuilding and sustainable development.
The FCA team, led by County Director Alex Mwashia, recognized for his pivotal role in restoring peace in the Kerio Valley, paid a courtesy call to the Deputy Governor. FCA’s mission in the region focuses on reducing violence and enhancing community resilience, with targeted interventions supporting women and youth in vulnerable communities.
During the meeting, FCA announced its plans to implement initiatives in two key areas:
Peace and Community Support – Strengthening local peace champions and providing assistance to communities affected by last year’s mudslides in Chesongoch.
Livelihood Projects – Promoting sustainable income generation through the provision of Galla and dairy goats and supporting the cultivation of high-value crops.
The delegation was joined by county Chief Officers Lawrence Mutwol, Robert Lagat, and Faith Yegon, alongside the FCA program manager, underscoring a collaborative approach between the county government and the humanitarian organization.
Deputy Governor Cheserek lauded FCA’s efforts, emphasizing the importance of targeted interventions that foster peace, empower youth, and enhance livelihoods. “Our partnership with FCA aligns with our commitment to building resilient communities that can thrive even in the face of natural disasters and social challenges,” she noted.
FCA’s engagement in Elgeyo Marakwet marks a continued effort to address both immediate and long-term challenges, ensuring that vulnerable populations are supported through holistic peace and development initiatives.
