The election exercise for Ward Climate Change Planning Committees (WCCPCs) across the 25 county wards commenced Wednesday with residents of Chepsiro/Kiptoror, Cherangany/Suwerwa, Sinyereri and Sitatunga wards choosing their representatives.

WCCPCs are the lowest organ in the Financing Locally Led Climate Actions (FLLoCA) program at the county level linking the grassroots persons to the Climate Change Unit (CCU) which coordinates climate issues in the county.

The exercise comes hot on the heels of the expiry of outgoing committee members three-year- non-renewable term which ended February 7, paving way for fresh blood to take on the mantle coxing climate actions at the grassroots.

FLLoCA Focal Person Godfrey Wekesa led the exercise scheduled to end on February 23 after which the elected members will be appointed and capacity build to fully understand their mandates and procedures of operations.

The three-year program in its second year of implementation seeks to build resilience mostly to vulnerable communities, from the effects of climate change through climate actions that support livelihoods through adaptation measures.
