Kitany Urges Governor Sang to Pursue National Role, Not Aldai Seat

Aldai MP Marianne Kitany has urged Nandi Governor Stephen Sang to seek a national position once he completes his second and final term in 2027, instead of vying for the Aldai parliamentary seat.

Speaking during a public event in Aldai, Kitany said encouraging Sang to move to the national arena would increase the constituency’s visibility and influence within government. She argued that having both her and the governor in senior positions would benefit residents through “expanded and complementary representation.”

Kitany’s remarks come amid growing speculation that Governor Sang is positioning himself to contest the Aldai seat in the next General Election — a move widely interpreted as an attempt to unseat her. Political observers in the region say Sang’s sustained presence in Aldai and his frequent engagements with local groups have intensified talk of an imminent face-off.

But Kitany downplayed the perceived political rivalry, insisting her suggestion was rooted in strategy, not fear of competition.

“We want Aldai to have greater representation at the national level. If Governor Sang takes up a national post after 2027, the constituency will have more influence while still retaining strong leadership at home,” she said.

Governor Sang has not publicly declared his intentions for 2027, though his allies maintain he will announce his next political move “at the right time.”

With the election still two years away, the battle for Aldai is already shaping up to be one of the most closely watched contests in Nandi County.
