Uasin Gishu Launches 2025 Statistical Abstract, Marks Major Step in Evidence-Based Planning

The County Government of Uasin Gishu, in partnership with the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS), on Monday launched the 2025 County Statistical Abstract (CSA), marking a key milestone in strengthening data-driven governance and development planning. The report was officially unveiled by Governor Dr. Jonathan Bii Chelilim at the County Headquarters on November 17, 2025.

Governor Bii noted that the journey to producing the comprehensive statistical document began in November 2023 during a multi-stakeholder forum that laid the groundwork for data collection, analysis, and verification. He emphasized that the CSA is an anchor for the Nguzo Kumi Agenda and a testament to the county’s commitment to evidence-based decision-making. Uasin Gishu is the first county to launch its statistical abstract this year.

Youth and Education Indicators Show Strong Growth

Among the report’s key findings is a substantial increase in the youth population aged 18–35, rising from 396,111 to 453,369. Governor Bii said the county is prioritizing youth empowerment through skills development and job creation.

He announced the forthcoming launch of the Fanikisha Vijana Programme, designed to equip young people with practical skills and expand employment opportunities. The county has allocated over Kshs. 165 million toward the initiative—Kshs. 100 million for Fanikisha Vijana and Kshs. 65 million for Fanikisha Hustle.

The education sector has also registered notable progress. ECDE enrolment has increased to 52,685 learners, a growth largely attributed to the School Milk Programme, which now supports 692 centres. The confirmation of 1,466 ECDE teachers has further improved the quality of early childhood education.

In technical training, TVET enrolment rose from 23,036 to 33,201 as the county continues modernizing 13 Vocational Training Centres and constructing two new facilities.

Health Sector Expands Capacity

Uasin Gishu has increased its number of public health facilities from 129 to 146, while its medical personnel more than doubled—from 608 to 1,291. Governor Bii highlighted the Mama Rachel Ruto Maternity Hospital as a flagship project. The facility, equipped with 20 incubators and a 40-bed antenatal and postnatal unit, has recorded 4,462 deliveries since June 2024.

Agricultural Output Surges

Agriculture, the county’s economic backbone, has shown strong performance. Milk production almost doubled from 216.7 million kilograms valued at Kshs. 8.6 billion to 462.9 million kilograms in 2024. Maize production also grew from 368,475 tons to 414,075 tons, supported by the county’s fertilizer subsidy programme and improved farmer support services.

Revenue Collection and Governance Indicators Improve

The county’s Own Source Revenue increased from Kshs. 779 million to over Kshs. 1.3 billion, signalling stronger economic activity and enhanced revenue compliance. The CSA further provides detailed data on governance indicators such as voter registration, civic engagement, access to information, and access to justice—all crucial for promoting transparency, accountability, and citizen participation.

Governor Bii commended county departments, KNBS, and development partners for their collaboration in producing the document. He said the CSA will continue to guide informed policy decisions and enhance service delivery across all sectors.

County Secretary Phillip Meli, CECM for Finance and Economic Planning Micah Rogony, CECM for Public Service Management Janet Koech, chief officers, directors, deputy directors, and other county officials attended the event.
