Ex-CS Susan Nakhumicha and Former MP Chris Wamalwa Launch 2027 Bids to Unseat Governor Natembeya

The race for the Trans Nzoia gubernatorial seat has officially kicked off after former Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumicha and former Kiminini MP Chris Wamalwa both declared their intentions to challenge Governor George Natembeya in the 2027 General Election.

The two leaders, who made their announcements in separate events over the weekend, said Trans Nzoia County is endowed with immense agricultural and economic potential yet continues to lag behind due to what they termed as poor leadership and misplaced priorities under the current administration.

“Trans Nzoia Should Not Be Struggling” — Nakhumicha

Addressing supporters in Kitale, Nakhumicha said her bid is driven by a desire to restore confidence in public institutions and bring order to county governance.

She criticized what she described as inefficiencies and growing mistrust between the county leadership and residents.

“Trans Nzoia is a county blessed with vast resources. There is absolutely no reason for our people to suffer underdevelopment,” she said.
“We must restore trust in public systems and ensure services get to the very last citizen.”

Nakhumicha promised to prioritize healthcare reforms, youth empowerment, and agricultural modernization if elected.

Wamalwa Promises Transparency and Development

In a separate rally at Kibagenge Grounds, former MP Chris Wamalwa accused the current regime of failing to deliver on key development promises.

He said his leadership approach would be people-centered, transparent, and anchored on measurable results.

“Trans Nzoia has everything it needs to prosper — fertile land, hardworking people, strategic location,” he told residents.
“What we lack is focused leadership that is accountable and transparent. My administration will change that.”

Wamalwa pledged to overhaul the county’s revenue system, improve road networks, and strengthen support for farmers.

Growing Scrutiny on Governor Natembeya

The emergence of high-profile challengers sets the stage for a heated contest, with Governor Natembeya expected to defend his record amid growing political pressure.
Analysts note that Trans Nzoia’s political landscape is becoming increasingly competitive as more leaders position themselves ahead of the 2027 polls.

Political Temperatures Rising

With the entry of Nakhumicha and Wamalwa, residents of Trans Nzoia are gearing up for what could be one of the most competitive gubernatorial races in the region.
Both challengers are expected to mount robust campaigns as they seek to convince voters that they offer a better alternative to the incumbent.
