DAP-K Condemns Attack on Leaders in Chwele, Kabuchai, Calls for Swift Investigation

The Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) has issued a strongly worded statement condemning the violent attack reported in Chwele, Kabuchai, where several political leaders were allegedly intimidated and placed in harm’s way during a public engagement.

In the statement released on Friday, the party expressed deep concern over the rising cases of political hostility across the country, warning that any form of aggression—regardless of the individuals or parties involved—poses a direct threat to Kenya’s democratic values.

“Violence Undermines Democracy”

DAP-K said the events in Chwele represent a grave violation of the rule of law and an attempt to silence political participation through fear.

“Any form of political aggression, regardless of who is involved, undermines the foundations of our democracy, the rule of law, and the right of every citizen to participate freely and safely in public life,” the statement read.

The party emphasized that political differences must never escalate into threats, intimidation, or physical attacks.

Calls for Swift and Impartial Investigation

DAP-K urged the country’s security agencies to move quickly and impartially to investigate the incident and ensure that all those responsible are held accountable.

“We urge security agencies to conduct a swift and impartial investigation and to ensure accountability for all those involved,” the party added, stressing that failure to act decisively would only embolden perpetrators.

Appeal for Political Tolerance

The statement further called on leaders, citizens, and institutions to embrace peaceful political engagement, warning that continued tolerance for violence threatens national unity and the democratic process as the country approaches the 2027 election cycle.

“As a nation, we must reinforce our commitment to political tolerance, respect, and dialogue. Violence has no place in our democracy,” DAP-K said.

The party also noted that protecting the safety and dignity of every citizen—whether a leader or an ordinary resident—must remain a top priority for the country.

Growing Concerns Ahead of 2027

The Chwele incident adds to rising tensions in various parts of the Western region, with political activities intensifying ahead of the 2027 General Election. Analysts say such episodes highlight the need for stronger security preparedness and conflict-prevention mechanisms during the electioneering period.

DAP-K reaffirmed its commitment to promoting peaceful politics and urged all stakeholders to do the same.
