Sudi Weighs In on Bribery Claims: "MPs Are Egg Thieves, But What About the Chicken Thieves?"
Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi has acknowledged that recent allegations of bribery within Parliament—highlighted by President William Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga—are grounded in truth, but says the issue has been exaggerated.
Speaking at a public event, Sudi admitted that a minority of MPs and Senators have indeed engaged in corrupt practices. However, he emphasized that the majority of lawmakers remain committed to their duty and should not be judged by the actions of a few.
"Yes, some MPs have taken bribes—let’s not lie. But it’s not everyone. In the Senate too, there are just a few bad apples. However, some Senators have made graft their business model," Sudi said.
Drawing a striking analogy, Sudi likened corrupt MPs to egg thieves, questioning why public outrage has not been equally directed at senior government officials involved in larger-scale corruption.
"We keep calling out MPs, but what about the real looters? What about Governors, Parastatal MDs and DGs, and some Principal Secretaries? Those are the chicken thieves. What fate awaits them?" he posed.
Sudi's comments come amid renewed national debate on integrity in public office, following a series of high-profile exposés and investigative reports on alleged bribery in both chambers of Parliament.
While the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has pledged to crack down on corrupt officials across all levels of government, critics argue that enforcement has been selective, with only low-ranking or politically expendable figures facing consequences.
As public pressure mounts for transparency and accountability, Sudi’s remarks may further stoke discussions about the uneven application of justice in Kenya’s anti-corruption fight.
