Funeral Chaos as Dead Man’s Phone Rings Suspect
Mourners in Busia County were left screaming, running, and in some cases fainting on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, when a buried man’s phone placed inside his coffin mysteriously began ringing during his funeral service, with the caller ID showing the name of a living relative suspected of causing his death.
The bizarre incident unfolded at around 2 p.m. during the burial of David Otieno, 34, who had died under unclear circumstances two weeks earlier. On the day of the burial, the service proceeded as normal until the coffin was lowered into the grave. A family elder placed David’s mobile phone, switched off, inside the coffin “as a symbolic gesture” a local custom meant to represent the continuation of communication in the afterlife.
But just as the final handfuls of soil were being thrown in, mourners heard a muffled ringing sound. Confusion turned to chaos when David’s younger sister pulled out her own phone and screamed: to read more click here
