Masalani Police Officers Lead Tree-Planting Initiative in Garissa

In a continued show of commitment to environmental sustainability, officers from Masalani Police Station today led a successful tree-planting exercise at Masalani Primary School, Garissa County, as part of the national drive to plant 15 billion trees by 2032.

The event, which was organized by the Ijara Sub-County Security Team, brought together law enforcement officers, national government administration officials, and local community members in a collaborative effort to restore degraded landscapes and promote climate resilience.

The activity was led by Assistant County Commissioner Mr. Letimima Geoffrey and Officer Commanding Station (OCS) Chief Inspector Martin Mulunda, who emphasized the National Police Service’s dedication not only to upholding law and order but also to safeguarding Kenya’s natural resources.

“We are here not just as law enforcement officers, but as champions of environmental conservation. Planting trees is one way we can secure the future for generations to come,” said Chief Inspector Mulunda.

Over 500 seedlings were planted around the school compound, with participation from students, teachers, and local elders. The initiative is part of broader government efforts to combat the effects of climate change through afforestation and community-led conservation programs.

Speaking during the event, Mr. Letimima Geoffrey highlighted the importance of public-private partnerships in achieving Kenya’s ambitious green goals.

“Environmental protection is a shared responsibility. The government, security agencies, and the community must work hand-in-hand to meet the target of planting 15 billion trees,” he said.

Residents lauded the initiative, noting the increasing importance of reforestation in addressing erratic weather patterns and land degradation in the region.

The Masalani event is one of many being held across the country under the Presidential Climate Action Campaign, a key component of Kenya’s long-term environmental and development agenda.
