CS Kipchumba Murkomen: A Proud Day for Elgeyo Marakwet as We Commission Key Water Projects and Drive Reforestation

Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration Kipchumba Murkomen has hailed the government's continued investment in sustainable development, water infrastructure, and environmental conservation, following a high-level tour of Elgeyo Marakwet County led by President William Samoei Ruto.

Speaking after a series of events across the region, CS Murkomen expressed his gratitude for being part of a historic day of commissioning and groundbreaking of critical development projects.

“I was honoured to join H.E. President William Ruto today in Elgeyo Marakwet County for several impactful initiatives, all aimed at transforming lives, ensuring water security, and protecting our environment,” Murkomen said.

The day’s activities included the commissioning of the Etio Dam Project and the Simotwo Water Project, both of which will significantly improve access to clean and reliable water for thousands of households in the region.

In addition, President Ruto presided over the groundbreaking of the Tirwane Water Project, further expanding the government’s commitment to delivering water infrastructure in arid and semi-arid counties.

A major highlight of the day was the national reforestation drive under the 15 Billion Tree Agenda, which aligns with Kenya’s long-term environmental and climate resilience goals.

“The tree planting activities and the celebration of the 9th Kaptagat Integrated Conservation Programme underscore our dedication to reversing environmental degradation, protecting water towers, and securing a sustainable future for generations to come,” added Murkomen.

The CS reiterated that the Ministry of Interior remains fully committed to supporting community-led conservation efforts and safeguarding all national assets tied to climate resilience and natural resources.

“Water is life, and trees are its natural guardians. Today’s events reaffirm our collective duty to both protect and serve. As leaders and citizens, let us remain united in building a greener, more resilient Kenya,” he concluded.
