Speaker Wetang’ula Hosts Award-Winning Kenyan Students from Huawei ICT Competition

Speaker of the National Assembly Hon. Moses Wetang’ula today hosted a delegation of Kenyan university students who recently earned top honours at the Huawei ICT Global Competition held in China last month.

The students, drawn from various universities across the country, paid a courtesy call to the Speaker at Parliament Buildings, where they shared their experiences and celebrated the pride of flying Kenya’s flag high on the global stage.

In his address, Speaker Wetang’ula congratulated the students for their exceptional performance, describing their achievement as a testament to Kenya’s growing potential in science, technology, and innovation.

“Your performance has brought honour not only to your institutions but to the entire country,” Wetang’ula said. “You have proven that Kenya has the talent and determination to compete — and win — on the world stage.”

The Huawei ICT Competition is one of the world’s largest and most prestigious platforms for students in information and communication technology. It brings together top-performing students from across the globe to showcase their technical knowledge, innovation, and problem-solving abilities.

Speaker Wetang’ula commended Huawei Technologies for supporting the initiative and empowering students through access to cutting-edge platforms and mentorship. He extended his appreciation to Huawei Kenya’s Deputy CEO Mr. Steven Zhang, who led the delegation accompanying the students.

“I applaud Huawei for their continued partnership in advancing ICT skills among our youth. Platforms like these are not just competitions — they are opportunities to shape future innovators, entrepreneurs, and national leaders,” Wetang’ula added.

He further encouraged the students to view success as an evolving journey, urging them to maintain discipline, curiosity, and a growth mindset as they chart their paths in technology and innovation.

“Success is a constantly moving target. It demands continued effort, learning, and adaptability,” he said. “The challenge now is to use your skills not only to advance your careers but to develop homegrown solutions that address our country’s needs.”

The Speaker also underscored the importance of public-private partnerships in expanding Kenya’s digital economy and preparing young people for the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

“When we invest in knowledge, we invest in the future of our country. Your achievements are a beacon of what is possible when the public and private sectors work together to nurture talent.”

The visit concluded with group photos and a commitment from Speaker Wetang’ula to support more initiatives that promote youth empowerment, digital literacy, and innovation.
