Nyandarua Senator John Methu, a close ally of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, has alleged that he narrowly escaped arrest while on a visit to Kakamega County on Saturday, May 31.
“Yesterday, I was in Kakamega, where Riggy G had sent me. He (President Ruto) sent police officers to apprehend me, but I looked for young people and we dared him to try,” Methu said during a rally in Lari, Kiambu County on Sunday. “William Ruto's officers left in a rush,” he added.
Methu claimed the attempted arrest is part of a broader crackdown on individuals aligned with Gachagua. He cited the recent arrest of 35-year-old software engineer Rose Njeri, who had developed a website to allow citizens to reject the Finance Bill 2025. According to the senator, the arrest was a sign that “the president is rattled.”
Just before Methu’s address, the Lari rally briefly faced disruption when goons tried to interfere. However, youths allied to Gachagua intervened and thwarted the attempt.
This follows the controversial disappearance of Juja MP George Koimburi, another Gachagua ally, who was later found in a coffee plantation. The DCI later disputed the kidnapping claims, stating Koimburi had spent the night in a hotel, though Gachagua maintained he was tortured and left in critical condition.
