Nandi Senator Kiprotich Cherargei has launched a scathing attack on Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration, Kipchumba Murkomen, accusing him of evading accountability and failing in his mandate to safeguard national security.
In a strongly worded statement issued on Tuesday, Senator Cherargei dismissed recent remarks by CS Murkomen, describing them as “political statements aimed at saving his skin rather than addressing the real issues affecting Kenyans.” The senator further discredited the CS's assertions about his legal background, stating unequivocally, “For the record, Murkomen never taught me in any law class. An incompetent person cannot teach me — it simply cannot happen.”
The senator decried what he termed as systemic failure in the Ministry of Interior under Murkomen’s leadership, citing a series of unresolved incidents including:
- The killing of Albert Ojwang,
- The deaths of Catholic priests Fr. Allois Cheruiyot Bett and Fr. Maina,
- The infamous Angata Baragoi killings in Samburu County,
- The alarming rise in criminal gang activity in Nakuru and Mombasa.
“These are not isolated cases — they represent a worrying pattern of impunity, incompetence, and disregard for Kenyan lives. Murkomen must answer to the people of Kenya. He must take responsibility. He must resign,” said Senator Cherargei.
The senator reaffirmed his stance on the importance of justice, transparency, and accountability in governance. “We shall not be intimidated from demanding what is right for the Kenyan people. The era of dodging responsibility through political spin is over.”
CS Murkomen, who has recently come under fire for perceived security lapses and political grandstanding, is yet to respond directly to the senator’s latest remarks.
