President Dr. William Samoei Ruto today presided over the official opening and handover of the newly completed Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) Police Housing Complex, a modern residential facility built to support the welfare of police officers serving at the CBK.
Located in Nairobi’s Industrial Area, the housing complex is the product of a strategic partnership between the Central Bank of Kenya and the National Police Service (NPS), under a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at improving the working and living conditions of police officers. The collaboration has also yielded key projects, including the National Police Leadership Academy in Ngong’.
The Inspector General of Police, Mr. Douglas Kanja, joined the President at the ceremony, alongside an array of senior government officials and police leadership.
The CBK Police Housing Complex comprises 210 fully furnished housing units—200 two-bedroom apartments and 10 three-bedroom apartments—equipped with modern amenities such as a gymnasium and a daycare centre. The facility is tailored to meet the residential needs of officers deployed to protect one of the country’s most sensitive institutions.
In his keynote address, President Ruto lauded the CBK-NPS partnership as a transformative example of what inter-agency collaboration can achieve.
"This housing project represents our commitment to dignifying the lives of police officers. For far too long, they have served under difficult conditions. Today marks a turning point in the restoration of their pride, dignity, and morale," said the President.
He urged other state agencies to emulate the partnership model and support similar projects that enhance the wellbeing of security personnel.
CBK Governor Dr. Kamau Thugge echoed the President’s sentiments, affirming the Central Bank's commitment to security sector support. “This complex is more than just housing—it is an investment in our nation’s security infrastructure and a symbol of appreciation for the officers who safeguard our financial institutions,” he said.
Also present were Cabinet Secretary for Lands, Public Works, Housing and Urban Development Hon. Alice Wahome; PS for Interior and National Administration Dr. Raymond Omollo; PS for the National Treasury Dr. Chris Kiptoo; PS for Housing and Urban Development Hon. Charles Hinga; Nairobi Governor Hon. Johnson Sakaja; and senior officers from the National Police Service, including Deputy Inspector General APS Mr. Gilbert Masengeli, DCI Director Mr. Mohamed Amin, and other high-ranking officials.
The launch of the CBK Police Housing Complex marks another step in the government’s broader agenda to reform the police service and improve officer welfare through the provision of quality housing and working environments.
