Police officers in Kibera have arrested four suspects believed to be behind a recent string of robberies that had terrorized residents in the area.
The suspects, identified as Shadrack Kimanzi, Jacton Masinga, Ephantas Njoroge, and Titus Teddy, were apprehended after weeks of intense investigations by law enforcement agencies. Authorities say the gang has been linked to multiple robbery incidents in Kibera and its surroundings, making them a high-priority target.
“We had been tracking their movements for a while,” said a senior officer who led the operation. “The arrest is a big win for the people of Kibera.”
During the arrest, police recovered a homemade firearm, six smartphones, two laptops, and a camera lens, all believed to have been stolen. The successful operation follows a series of coordinated efforts between local police and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
To foster public trust and encourage cooperation, DCI officials shared images of the suspects and the recovered items on social media. The move is intended to strengthen the relationship between the police and the community, and to encourage citizens to report criminal activities.
“We urge members of the public to continue providing information,” DCI said in a statement. “It was through this collaboration that we were able to arrest the suspects.”
The arrests have been welcomed by Kibera residents, who say they had been living in fear due to rising crime rates in recent weeks.
“We can finally breathe a little,” said one resident. “We thank the police for taking quick action and restoring some sense of safety in our neighborhood.”
Investigations into the gang’s activities are ongoing, and authorities have promised to continue cracking down on crime across Nairobi’s informal settlements.
