Nakuru Armed Gang Busted as Police Recover AK-47 Used in Crime Spree

 A notorious armed gang that has terrorized Nakuru County residents has been dismantled following a coordinated police operation, resulting in the arrest of five suspects and the recovery of an AK-47 rifle used during their violent crimes.

Acting on intelligence, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations’ (DCI) Operation Action Team and Crime Research Bureau teamed up with Nakuru county police in a successful raid. The gang members were tracked down and apprehended from their hideouts.

The recovered AK-47, bearing serial number 18916 and loaded with three rounds, was found concealed in dry grass near a residential home in Rhoda, Nakuru.

The gang’s violent activities have left deep scars in the community. On the night of June 1, 2025, the group ambushed police officers on foot patrol, killing one officer and injuring two others, who are currently receiving treatment.

In a separate brutal incident, the gang raided a shop in Soilo area, attacking the 24-year-old owner with machetes and daggers before robbing him of hundreds of thousands of shillings. The victim was dragged from the shop and shot dead, sparking outrage and fear across the county. Several other violent attacks have also been linked to the gang.

The arrested suspects have been identified as William Nywhili Rioba, Nyahili Nyamuhaga Magige, Emmanuel Muita Muita, Catherine Nkatha Zakayo, and Peter Chacha. They are currently being processed by Nakuru East detectives ahead of their scheduled arraignment on Tuesday, June 3.

The DCI has assured Nakuru residents and all Kenyans that their security remains a top priority. Multiple anti-robbery units have been deployed countywide to pursue and dismantle armed gangs whose activities have been under continuous surveillance.

Authorities vow to end the reign of terror and restore safety to the streets of Nakuru and beyond.
