Mugithi Star Waithaka Wa Jane Claims Life in Danger, Sparks Fears of Political Targeting

The Mugithi music scene has been rocked by a chilling social media alert from popular artist Waithaka Wa Jane, who claimed that his life is in imminent danger. The renowned musician, known for his emotional storytelling and powerful performances, alleged that there is a plot to abduct and possibly harm him during an upcoming show.

“Someone is planning to abduct me when performing tonight and their aim is to silence or even end my life,” Waithaka wrote in a widely shared post, triggering an outpouring of concern from fans and fellow artists.

The artist further hinted that the threat may be politically motivated, adding, “More artists from Mt. Kenya region are being criticized and silenced for speaking out.”

Waithaka Wa Jane has become a beloved voice in the Mugithi genre, often addressing social and political issues in his music—an approach that has earned him both praise and scrutiny.

His claims have sparked growing speculation that some Kikuyu musicians are being targeted for using their art as a form of protest or for speaking critically about government actions. In recent months, reports have emerged of artists facing pressure to stay silent on sensitive political matters.

Following his post, Waithaka’s comment section was flooded with prayers, warnings, and messages urging him to cancel his performance and prioritize his safety.

“We love your music, but your safety comes first,” one fan wrote. “Don't go on stage tonight. It’s not worth the risk.”

As of this afternoon, the artist had not confirmed whether he would proceed with the scheduled performance, and security concerns remain high among his supporters.

Authorities have yet to issue a formal response to the artist’s allegations. However, civil society groups and fellow musicians are now calling for an investigation and urging the government to ensure the safety of all artists, regardless of their political views.

Waithaka Wa Jane's message serves as a stark reminder of the rising tension between creative expression and political power in Kenya's evolving cultural landscape.
