A dramatic turn of events unfolded today at the Kibera High Court, where a suspect in the murder of Kasepul Member of Parliament Charles Ong’ondo reportedly threatened to kill a state prosecutor during a tense bail hearing.
The suspect, Abel Ochieng, is alleged to have told a police officer that he and others would "kill the prosecutor" who opposed their release on bail. The prosecutor, Allen Mulama, was making submissions against granting bail to Ochieng and his co-accused, William Omoli and Edwin Ochieng, when the threat reportedly occurred.
According to police officer Damian Mulongo, the suspect became visibly enraged and inquired about the identity of the prosecutor. He allegedly vowed to harm Mulama for pushing for their continued detention in connection with the MP’s assassination on April 30.
“This threat should not be taken lightly,” stated Justice Diana Muchache, who acknowledged the seriousness of the incident and noted that the prosecutor had been visibly shaken and had to leave the courtroom under protection.
Following the revelation, the court ordered that Abel Ochieng be placed in isolation at the Nairobi Remand Centre due to security concerns. All three suspects — Ochieng, Omoli, and Ochieng — will undergo mandatory mental health evaluations, with the case scheduled to be mentioned again on June 17, 2025.
Meanwhile, two other suspects in the case — Isaac Kuria and Allan Omondi, the slain MP's own bodyguard — appeared before Justice Margaret Muingai and were ordered to be held at Kamiti Maximum Security Prison. Investigators revealed that Kuria and Omondi may be willing to cooperate and provide information regarding the plot to assassinate MP Ong’ondo.
The murder of MP Ong’ondo has shocked the nation, with calls mounting for swift justice and full exposure of those behind the killing. Authorities have not ruled out the possibility of more arrests as the investigation continues.
