Mataara Tea Factory Shines at Energy Management Awards

Mataara Tea Factory, under the management of Kenya Tea Development Agency (KTDA), has been recognized for its outstanding commitment to sustainability and operational efficiency by clinching the Best Energy Management Tea Sector Award during the prestigious Energy Management Awards (EMA) held at Safari Park Hotel.


The award underscores Mataara Tea Factory’s steadfast dedication to embracing innovative, energy-efficient practices that reduce environmental impact while enhancing productivity — setting a benchmark for excellence across the tea industry.


Present to receive and celebrate the accolade were key KTDA leaders and technical experts including Charles Manegene, KTDA Head of Factory Operations; William Bii, ZQAM Zone 1; Samuel Mwangi, FUM Mataara Tea Factory; Edward Mbatia, Mechanical Engineer, KTDA-TSD; Gregory Marete, FUM Tebesonik Tea Factory; Moses Gitau, PM Momul Tea Factory; Emilio Nyaga, FUM Kimunye Tea Factory; and Kenneth Karani, Assistant QS KTDA-TSD.


The Energy Management Awards, organized annually to promote energy conservation and recognize exemplary institutions, highlighted Mataara’s strategic initiatives in reducing energy consumption, integrating green technologies, and fostering a culture of sustainable production.


Mataara’s achievement not only cements KTDA’s industry leadership in sustainability but also reinforces its commitment to advancing the interests of smallholder tea farmers across Kenya through responsible and future-focused operations.
