The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has confirmed the arrest of Cyrus Ikanga Isavi, the Member of County Assembly (MCA) representing Ikanga Ward in Kitui County, over allegations of theft involving mobile phone accessories valued at KSh 1.9 million.
According to DCI officials, the MCA was caught on CCTV footage stealing the electronics from a courier office located along River Road in Nairobi. The footage, which has since been handed over to authorities, clearly shows Ikanga involved in the act.
Eyewitness accounts corroborated the video evidence, leading to his arrest by security personnel attached to Bouscar Courier Services. The arrest was conducted without incident.
Officers from Nairobi's Central Police Station later confirmed the suspect’s identity as the sitting MCA for Ikanga Ward. Following his arrest, Ikanga was transferred to Mombasa for further investigation in accordance with jurisdictional directives.
In a related development, it has also emerged that in September 2024, the same MCA was brutally assaulted by unknown assailants, leaving him unconscious. The motive behind the attack remains unclear, and investigations are still ongoing.
Authorities are urging members of the public to come forward with any additional information that could assist in the ongoing probe.
