KEWOPA Lashes Out at Isiolo Governor Over Vicious Verbal Assault on Senator Fatuma Dullo

By John Kariuki

The Kenya Women Parliamentary Association (KEWOPA) has come out guns blazing, issuing a thunderous condemnation of the Governor of Isiolo County for launching a vile, misogynistic tirade against Senator Fatuma Dullo an elected leader and a symbol of women's resilience in national leadership.

In a scorching statement, KEWOPA denounced the Governor’s remarks as an appalling manifestation of sexist arrogance, branding them not only defamatory but also a calculated attempt to discredit and humiliate a respected public servant. The association condemned the Governor’s words as a reckless descent into toxic masculinity, unbecoming of any officeholder in a constitutional democracy.

The Governor’s venom-laced rhetoric, targeted at Senator Dullo, amounts to a grotesque abuse of power and a desperate ploy to stifle accountability. His language betrayed a deep-rooted disdain for women in positions of authority, exposing the virulent misogyny that festers beneath the surface of Kenya’s political class. This was not mere political criticism, it was a deliberate assault on the dignity, legitimacy, and humanity of women leaders.

KEWOPA warned that the normalization of such behavior opens the floodgates to political thuggery, gender-based violence, and institutionalized discrimination. The statement made it clear: the Governor’s sustained verbal attacks are not isolated incidents but part of a dangerous campaign to weaponize sexism and intimidate women out of public office.

The association categorically declared that Senator Fatuma Dullo’s role as a legislator and oversight authority is constitutionally protected, and any attempt to discredit her through slander or personal attacks is a direct violation of the rule of law, the principle of checks and balances, and the democratic ethos the country strives to uphold.

Under the bold and unrelenting leadership of Chairperson Hon. Leah Sankaire, KEWOPA has demanded immediate action. Sankaire, a towering defender of women’s rights and constitutional integrity, has called upon the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to investigate and bring the Governor to book for his inflammatory and defamatory utterances.

Sankaire’s leadership in this moment is nothing short of courageous. She has fiercely upheld the sanctity of public office against chauvinistic aggression, asserting that women will no longer be silent spectators as their integrity is dragged through the mud by power-drunk officials emboldened by impunity.

KEWOPA now calls on all leaders regardless of political affiliation to break their silence, condemn the Governor’s disgraceful conduct, and affirm the constitutional right of every woman to participate in leadership without fear of intimidation, vilification, or gendered slander.

The association reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to defending the rights and reputations of its members and vowed to continue championing a political culture grounded in respect, equality, and dignity.

This is not merely about Senator Fatuma Dullo. It is about the soul of the republic. And KEWOPA, under Hon. Leah Sankaire, is making it clear: the era of silencing women through insults and intimidation is over.
