The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) has initiated an investigation into a police shooting incident in Narok County that resulted in three fatalities and several injuries.
According to reports, police officers opened fire on civilians who were allegedly trespassing on private property within the Anguma Conservancy. The injured individuals were promptly transported to nearby hospitals for treatment of serious gunshot wounds.
IPOA has been tasked with gathering pertinent information to ascertain the circumstances leading to the incident and to determine whether the officers' actions were justified. The authority has also urged residents to remain calm as the investigation progresses.
"Meanwhile, the authority extends its condolences to the families of those who lost their loved ones and to those who were injured. It also appeals to residents to stay calm and allow the due process of law to take its course," stated IPOA.
This incident adds to a series of recent confrontations between police and civilians in Narok County, including the January 17 clash in Duka Moja Trading Centre, which resulted in two deaths and multiple injuries. In that case, IPOA condemned the violence and launched an investigation into the use of force by police officers.
The recurring nature of such incidents has raised concerns about police conduct and the need for accountability. IPOA continues to monitor and investigate cases of alleged police misconduct to ensure justice and uphold human rights.
Residents and witnesses are encouraged to provide information to IPOA to assist in the ongoing investigations. The authority assures the public that all information will be handled confidentially and that appropriate actions will be taken based on the findings.
