Uasin Gishu Woman Representative Hon. Gladys Boss Shollei has lauded public-private partnerships in enhancing healthcare delivery after receiving and presenting maternity packs donated by the M-Pesa Foundation and 4Life Solutions to two health facilities in the county.
Speaking during a handover ceremony at Kesses Sub-County Hospital and later at Plateau Mission Hospital, Shollei emphasized the importance of supporting expectant mothers and frontline health workers with essential supplies to improve maternal health outcomes.
“I am grateful to the M-Pesa Foundation, led by Director Karen Basiye, and our partners at 4Life Solutions for their generosity and commitment to safe motherhood,” said Shollei. “These maternity packs will go a long way in ensuring that mothers deliver with dignity, safety, and the care they deserve.”
The maternity kits, which include baby clothing, hygiene supplies, and maternal essentials, are part of a wider initiative to reduce maternal and neonatal mortality by addressing gaps in basic resources at health facilities.
Shollei highlighted the ongoing need to equip rural and sub-county hospitals with adequate infrastructure and resources, noting that partnerships between government leaders and the private sector are critical in bridging service delivery gaps.
“We are working to ensure that no woman in Uasin Gishu has to risk her life due to lack of basic maternity items or healthcare services,” she said.
Karen Basiye, Director of Sustainable Business at the M-Pesa Foundation, emphasized the organization’s commitment to supporting vulnerable communities and improving health systems across Kenya. “We believe in partnering with leaders and institutions to make an impact where it matters most — and maternal health is one of our top priorities,” Basiye stated.
Health officials from both Kesses and Plateau hospitals welcomed the donation, expressing appreciation for the support and underscoring the need for continued collaboration to strengthen maternal care in the region.
Shollei assured constituents that her office will continue to prioritize health, education, and women’s economic empowerment through strategic partnerships and grassroots engagement.
