Uasin Gishu, Kenya — Four suspects have been formally charged with the murder of a 24-year-old businessman, Samwel Mugiro, whose body was discovered in the flooded River Sosiani late last month.

The suspects — Dennis Kiptoo Rono, Elvis Kiptanui, Abiud Barkutwa, and Cornelius Kiplimo Keter — were arraigned in court following their arrest by officers from Langas Police Station at their hideouts in Kipkaren estate.

According to police investigations, the deceased was reportedly abducted on April 27, 2025. Eyewitnesses claim the four accused were seen assaulting Mugiro before he disappeared. His body was later discovered by members of the public in River Sosiani, triggering a homicide investigation.

A mental health assessment conducted at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital found all four suspects to be of sound mind, clearing the way for legal proceedings to commence.

During the court proceedings, the prosecution argued against the suspects' request for bail, citing them as flight risks and pointing out that key witness statements in the case were still pending. The court concurred with the prosecution and denied bail.

The four suspects will remain in custody at the Eldoret GK Prison as they await a pre-trial hearing scheduled for June 16, 2025.
