A 26-year-old suspected drug trafficker, Wendy Mbeke Muli, is set to be arraigned in court on Monday after being caught attempting to smuggle cocaine through Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in a daring and dangerous internal concealment method.
According to the Anti-Narcotics Unit, Mbeke was intercepted by security officers at around 10:00 a.m. on June 13, 2025, just moments before boarding an international flight. Her visibly uneasy demeanor during a routine passenger screening prompted further investigation by airport detectives.
Authorities say Mbeke was taken aside for a comprehensive search after raising suspicion. Upon questioning and subsequent examination, it became apparent that she had ingested foreign substances, triggering an urgent medical watch.
"She appeared nervous and was sweating profusely despite the mild weather. Trained officers picked up on her behavior and acted quickly," a senior Anti-Narcotics officer revealed.
While under medical observation, Mbeke reportedly asked to use the restroom, where she excreted two pellets suspected to contain narcotics. The following day, six more pellets were excreted, bringing the total to eight.
Forensic analysis confirmed that the pellets contained cocaine weighing approximately 626.65 grams—an amount with an estimated street value running into the millions.
Investigators are now probing whether Mbeke was acting alone or is part of a larger drug trafficking syndicate using Kenyan airports as transit points.
"This is a clear indication that traffickers are still attempting high-risk smuggling methods, but our vigilance has not waned," officials stated. “We will not relent in safeguarding our borders from drug infiltration.”
Mbeke will face charges related to drug trafficking, possession of narcotics, and attempting to smuggle prohibited substances, once arraigned on June 16, 2025.
