In a significant boost to community health outreach, Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) on Friday delivered free specialized healthcare services to Eldoret residents during the university students’ Talent Expo.
Held in the heart of the city, the event attracted hundreds of locals who turned up not only to support student talent but also to access essential health services offered by one of the country’s leading referral hospitals.
Over 400 people benefited from a wide range of medical services including reproductive health consultations, urology, and ophthalmology. The hospital also conducted screenings and provided treatment for non-communicable diseases such as hypertension and diabetes, as well as testing for HIV/AIDS.
“The aim was to bring healthcare closer to the people, especially those who may not have the time or resources to visit the hospital,” said Dr. Wilson Aruasa, MTRH Chief Executive Officer. “We are committed to community outreach and preventive health.”
Health professionals from various departments were on-site throughout the day, providing both medical care and health education. Counseling and testing services were also offered to promote awareness and early detection of illnesses, ensuring attendees could receive immediate guidance and follow-up plans.
The collaboration between MTRH and local universities not only highlighted the importance of youth-driven events in community development but also underlined the role of public institutions in bridging healthcare access gaps.
Residents praised the initiative, with many calling for more frequent health camps in underserved areas. “It was my first eye check-up in years. I’m grateful to MTRH for bringing these services closer to us,” said Alice Mutai, one of the attendees.
The Talent Expo, primarily organized to showcase university students’ creativity and innovation, thus doubled as a platform for impactful public health outreach—demonstrating how strategic partnerships can transform communities.
