DP Kithure Kindiki: Kenya Kwanza Government Committed to Equitable Development Across All Regions

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has reaffirmed the Kenya Kwanza Administration’s commitment to equitable development across the country, pledging that no region will be left behind in the government’s effort to uplift the socio-economic wellbeing of all Kenyans.

Speaking during the launch of the Masinga Constituency Economic Empowerment Programme, the Deputy President highlighted a series of ambitious infrastructure and empowerment projects set to transform livelihoods in Machakos County and beyond.

“To build a stronger and more prosperous Kenya, development must reach every corner of our country,” Kindiki said. “From electricity to market infrastructure, the government is rolling out targeted programmes to support families, farmers, traders, and youth.”

To boost access to electricity, the government is actively implementing the Last Mile Connectivity Programme in all of the country’s 290 constituencies. In Machakos County alone, KSh 1.4 billion has been allocated to connect 6,500 new households to the national grid. Of this, Masinga Constituency will benefit from KSh 116 million, connecting 500 new households.

Kindiki noted that access to reliable power was essential for enhancing rural economies and unlocking entrepreneurship opportunities. “When we connect homes and businesses to electricity, we empower communities to thrive,” he said.

On market infrastructure, the Deputy President reported that 250 out of a targeted 400 modern and ESP (Economic Stimulus Programme) markets are currently under various stages of construction nationwide. These facilities are designed to provide dignified, secure, and conducive spaces for farmers and traders to conduct their businesses.

Machakos County will benefit from the construction of 15 modern markets, including the flagship Machakos Town Mega Market, with a budget of KSh 450 million, and Matuu Market, set to cost KSh 350 million. These markets will feature mothers’ rooms, social halls, spacious stalls, boardrooms, and ICT hubs equipped with at least 100 computers and free internet to enable e-commerce and digital employment for the youth.

“This is not just about buildings; it's about dignity for our traders and creating opportunity for our young people,” Kindiki added.

The event was attended by MPs Joshua Mwalyo (Masinga), Vincent Musyoka (Mwala), Caleb Mule (Machakos Town), Nimrod Mbai (Kitui East), Rachael Nyamai (Kitui South), Nominated Senator Tabitha Mutinda, Members of the Machakos County Assembly, and several grassroots leaders, who pledged to support the government's bottom-up economic agenda.

The Deputy President also praised the role of women groups and SACCOs in grassroots empowerment, expressing confidence that the economic programme launched in Masinga would spur local growth and financial independence among women.

“The Kenya Kwanza government will continue to support all community-driven efforts that lift our people from poverty and promote inclusive development,” he concluded.
