Daring Robbers Nabbed as Police Recover AK-47 Rifle in Buuri East

Detectives in Buuri East have made a major breakthrough in a spate of violent robberies that have rocked the region, arresting two suspects and recovering an AK-47 rifle believed to have been used in multiple crimes across Buuri East, Tigania West, and surrounding areas.

The dramatic arrests followed reports of gunfire near Mungania Shopping Centre. Responding swiftly, detectives established that the suspects were in the process of robbing a member of the National Police Reserve (NPR). The officer, showing commendable courage, fired two warning shots into the air — an unexpected move that startled the assailants and forced them to abandon their weapon before fleeing the scene.

The swift action of law enforcement led to the discovery of the suspects’ getaway vehicle, a Toyota Vitz registration number KCE 435Q, which was abandoned near the crime scene. A woman identified as Christian Saina Korosian was apprehended as she attempted to flee from the car. Her alleged accomplice, Moses Kayiok Noomeyo, was tracked down and arrested while hiding in a nearby house.

Further investigations revealed that the duo was part of a gang involved in an earlier armed robbery at Maritati Centre in Timau. Dressed in jungle camouflage uniforms and brandishing two AK-47 rifles, the gang had stormed into an M-Pesa shop and demanded access. When the attendant hesitated, the robbers opened fire. Fortunately, the woman managed to dodge the bullets and escape into a back room.

Undeterred, the gang shattered the shop’s glass display and made off with 15 smartphones. As they fled the scene, they shot and injured two innocent civilians — one victim was hit in the right hip, while another sustained injuries to the left arm.

Inside the abandoned getaway vehicle, detectives recovered jungle green trousers, similar to those worn by the robbers as captured on CCTV footage during the Maritati heist.

The suspects are currently in police custody and are being processed ahead of arraignment in court. The recovered AK-47 rifle and remaining ammunition are being held as crucial exhibits as detectives intensify their manhunt for a third suspect who managed to evade arrest during the operation.

Local authorities have praised the NPR officer’s bravery and the detectives’ quick response, noting that the arrests mark a significant step in restoring security in the region.
