The national Kazi Majuu recruitment drive commenced on a high note in Malindi today, drawing hundreds of enthusiastic jobseekers despite persistent heavy rains. Held at Butwani Waterfront Park, the exercise witnessed hopeful youth lining up as early as 6:00 a.m., demonstrating their eagerness to secure one of the 3,500 job placements earmarked for the Coast region.
Out of the total positions, Malindi was allocated 750 slots in various categories including Motorcycle Riders, Security Guards, Landscapers, Construction Helpers, and Hospitality Workers. The initiative, spearheaded by the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection, aims to expand job opportunities for Kenyan youth abroad under the Presidential Kazi Majuu programme.
The one-stop recruitment event brought together several key government agencies. The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) assisted applicants with licensing, while the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) facilitated the issuance of certificates of good conduct. Youth Fund officials offered financial guidance, and several banks were on hand to help participants open bank accounts.
Recruitment agencies carried out interviews throughout the day, while Ministry of Labour officers oversaw the smooth coordination of the process.
The exercise continues tomorrow, Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at Karisa Maitha Stadium in Kilifi Town starting at 8:00 a.m. It will then proceed to Mombasa on Wednesday and wrap up at the Ukunda/Diani Showgrounds in Kwale County on Thursday.
Cabinet Secretary for Labour and Social Protection urged those interested in the opportunities to urgently apply for passports via the e-Citizen platform. The Ministry, in collaboration with the Immigration Department, is working to fulfill the Presidential directive that all Kazi Majuu applicants receive their passports within three days.
“We are expanding the scope of employment opportunities and will soon roll out more chances across various professional fields,” the CS stated.
The CS also extended heartfelt gratitude to Kilifi County Governor Gideon Mung’aro, MPs Hon. Amina Mnyazi and Hon. Michael Kingi, and other Coast region leaders for their strong mobilization and continued support.
