Kindiki Rallies Support for Traders, Slams Political Intimidation

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has issued a strong condemnation of what he termed as the "politics of blackmail, bullying, and intimidation," saying such tactics have no place in a free and democratic Kenya. Speaking during an economic empowerment event for Small-Scale Traders SACCOs in Kabete Constituency, Kindiki reaffirmed the government’s commitment to safeguarding democratic freedoms and supporting grassroots economic growth.

“We shall not allow political bullies to run roughshod over citizens, artists, and stakeholders who are freely expressing themselves and seeking real solutions to challenges facing their livelihoods,” said the Deputy President, drawing applause from a packed crowd at Ndurarua.

The event, aimed at uplifting small-scale traders in Kiambu County, brought together a host of leaders including National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah and area MP Githua Wamacukuru. Others present included Thika Town MP Alice Ng’ang’a, Kiambu Woman Representative Ann Muratha, Lari MP Mburu Kahangara, Kiambaa MP John Njuguna Kawanjiku, Ruiru MP Simon King’ara, Gatundu North MP Elijah Njoroge Kururia, Gatundu South MP GG Kagombe, Laikipia Woman Representative Jane Kagiri, EALA MP Maina Karobia, and Senior Presidential Economic Advisor Moses Kuria, alongside several Members of the County Assembly.

Kindiki reiterated the Kenya Kwanza administration’s resolve to promote economic empowerment at the grassroots, especially among informal traders and hustlers who form the backbone of the economy.

“Our determination to empower small-scale traders, help them grow their enterprises, and dignify their daily toil is unstoppable,” he stated, emphasizing that initiatives such as SACCO support and market infrastructure development will remain central to the government’s economic agenda.

The Deputy President praised the entrepreneurial spirit of Kiambu residents and assured them of continued support through government-backed programs aimed at increasing access to affordable credit, expanding trade opportunities, and enhancing business resilience.

The empowerment event in Kabete is part of a broader national campaign by the government to engage directly with local communities and deliver targeted economic interventions.
