Kili Solomon Represents Dr. Charles Koech at National Policy Review on Business Process Outsourcing

Kili Solomon, the Registrar of Administration, represented the Chief Principal, Dr. Charles Koech, at the National Policy Review on Business Process Outsourcing (BPO), organized by the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection. The event, held at the prestigious Kempinski Hotel in Nairobi, focused on developing a comprehensive policy to address critical issues surrounding labour mobility, including both offshore and nearshore outsourcing.

The review session was officiated by Dr. Wanjiru Kariuki, Secretary for Skills Development, who was standing in for Principal Secretary Shadrack M. Mwadime, CBS. In her address, Dr. Kariuki emphasized the significance of BPO in Kenya’s economic development, particularly in relation to youth employment and skill development.

One of the key discussions at the review was the need to enhance the curriculum in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions. Stakeholders proposed the inclusion of a modularised curriculum specifically tailored to the BPO sector. This would provide students with the practical skills needed to thrive in the fast-evolving BPO industry, ensuring that graduates are well-prepared for both local and international job markets.

The inclusion of a modularised curriculum was widely supported by TVET representatives, who believe that it would better equip students with the necessary tools to meet the dynamic demands of the outsourcing industry. This move is also seen as a step toward fostering a highly skilled workforce capable of driving innovation and competitiveness in the BPO sector.

Kili Solomon, who attended the session on behalf of Dr. Koech, expressed support for the policy and reiterated the importance of aligning educational programs with market needs. “The policy review presents a great opportunity to streamline the education system with the growing demands of the global outsourcing market,” Solomon remarked. “It is essential that we adapt to the changes in the labour market and ensure that our youth are equipped with the right skills to compete.”

The policy review aims to create an enabling environment for the growth of the BPO sector in Kenya, which has already positioned itself as a leading destination for outsourcing services in Africa. The discussions highlighted the need for increased collaboration between the government, TVET institutions, and industry players to create a sustainable framework for labour mobility and skills development.

As the policy review progresses, the government and key stakeholders remain focused on creating a roadmap that will not only benefit the BPO industry but also empower young people to seize opportunities in this rapidly growing sector.
