The police in Kisii County intensified the ongoing national crackdown on illegal alcohol and drugs following a huge raid conducted earlier today at Itumbe Stage in Sameta Sub-County.
The raid, commanded by Sub-County Police Commander (SP) Madam Lucy Mugambi, saw the officers recover 481 litres of chang'aa, a weight of a substance suspected to be cannabis sativa, and a shocking array of replica guns — two of the FN rifle replicas and a toy pistol. Other paraphernalia suspected to be linked to criminal life were also recovered during the raid.
One of the suspects was arrested at the scene and is currently in custody pending investigations.
Police have since ensured that all the items seized are still in police custody as further forensic testing and legal proceedings continue. The authorities suspect the imitation guns may have been used in criminal schemes, and are treating the matter with the seriousness it warrants.
Addressing after the operation, SP Lucy Mugambi reaffirmed police commitment to clearing Kisii County of illegal brew and drugs. "This is a part of a larger, sustained effort to bring down the networks involved in the manufacture, supply, and sale of harmful substances," she said.
The National Police Service (NPS) once again confirmed its dedication towards ensuring public health and safety through aggressive enforcement of anti-drug and liquor laws.
Individuals have been summoned to continue helping the police provide information that can aid in the identification of illegal operations in their neighborhoods.
