A young man from Kipsabula village in Mt. Elgon tragically lost his life on Monday evening after allegedly being beaten to death by his uncles in a domestic dispute over a sufuria (cooking pot) debt of just KSh 200.
According to eyewitnesses, a heated argument broke out between the 24-year-old man and his uncles, who accused him of taking the cooking pot and failing to pay for it. The confrontation quickly turned violent, leading to a severe beating that left the man critically injured.
Neighbors who rushed to the scene say the victim, while struggling to speak through his injuries, named all his attackers before collapsing. He was rushed to a local health facility, but was pronounced dead on arrival.
> “It was heartbreaking. He could barely speak, but he mentioned the names of those who attacked him. We couldn’t believe it was over something so minor,” said one resident.
Local police have launched a manhunt for the suspects, some of whom are reported to have fled the village shortly after the incident. Mt. Elgon Sub-County Police Commander Daniel Kiprotich confirmed the incident and said investigations are ongoing.
> “This is a senseless and unfortunate loss of life. We urge anyone with information to come forward. Justice will be served,” Kiprotich said.
The body has been moved to Bungoma County Referral Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
The killing has sparked outrage and sorrow among residents, who are calling for justice and urging families to resolve domestic disagreements without resorting to violence.
