Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Monday evening hosted a closed-door consultative meeting with National Assembly Speaker JB Muturi and Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi in what sources close to the leaders described as a "strategic unity dialogue among Mt. Kenya elders."
The meeting, held at Gachagua’s rural home in Mathira, brought together the three prominent leaders under the symbolic shade of a mugumo tree—a traditional Kikuyu gathering site—sparking speculation about the region's political direction ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking briefly to the press after the gathering, Gachagua emphasized the importance of unity and wisdom among leaders from the Mt. Kenya region.
“We did not meet because we cannot speak individually. We met because it is good for kinsmen to reason together when the season calls for reflection and foresight,” said Gachagua.
While the agenda was not officially disclosed, insiders say discussions centered around regional development, agricultural resilience, and the need to consolidate political strength in the face of growing national uncertainties.
JB Muturi underscored the value of dialogue grounded in respect and heritage, while CS Linturi reiterated his commitment to reviving the agricultural sector, especially in the face of recent droughts and food insecurity.
Political analysts say the meeting is a sign of regrouping by former allies in the Kenya Kwanza alliance, possibly setting the stage for a renewed political strategy in the region.
“This is not just a social meeting. This is a symbolic show of alignment. When Gachagua, Muturi, and Linturi sit together, it signals a serious regional recalibration,” said Prof. Wambui Karanja, a political analyst based in Nairobi.
