TVETA Officials Conduct ODeL Centre Audit at Eldoret National Polytechnic

The Eldoret National Polytechnic (TENP) today hosted officials from the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TVETA) for an official audit of its Open, Distance and e-Learning (ODeL) Centre, marking a key milestone in the institution’s journey toward offering accredited online and blended learning programs.

The TVETA delegation, led by Mr. Julius Serem and Mrs. Rose Undisa, was received by Mr. Paul Seurey, Deputy Principal – Administration, who represented Chief Principal Dr. Charles Koech. Also in attendance were Mr. Vincent Sabulei, Coordinator of ODeL & ICT Integration, and Ms. Everline Chelagat, ODeL Administrator, who briefed the team on the Centre’s current operations, infrastructure, and strategic vision.

The audit is part of the regulatory framework required for institutions seeking formal accreditation to deliver courses through open and distance learning modes. Once accredited, TENP will be among the few technical institutions in Kenya authorized to offer flexible and accessible online programs in line with TVET sector reforms and the Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET) model.

“This audit is a significant step in expanding access to quality technical education for all,” said Mr. Seurey. “It reflects our commitment to innovation, inclusion, and lifelong learning, especially for learners who are unable to attend full-time, on-campus training.”

Mr. Sabulei highlighted that TENP’s ODeL Centre is well-equipped with digital platforms, trained facilitators, and support systems to provide a seamless learning experience. He added that the Centre aims to support both pre-service and in-service learners, including working professionals seeking skills upgrading.

The TVETA team reviewed TENP’s digital infrastructure, content delivery systems, learner support services, and quality assurance mechanisms to ensure they meet national standards for ODeL programs. Their findings will inform the final decision on TENP’s accreditation status.

If successful, TENP’s ODeL Centre will enable the institution to roll out online programs in key disciplines, thereby reaching more students across the country and aligning with Kenya’s broader goals of increasing TVET enrollment and digital inclusion.
