KeNHA Visits Eldoret National Polytechnic to Address Road Safety Concerns

The Eldoret National Polytechnic (TENP) on Wednesday hosted a team of senior officials from the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA), Nairobi, for a critical site assessment aimed at enhancing road safety along the Eldoret–Kapsabet highway, particularly at the institution’s entrance.

The delegation, led by Eng. Richard Mogosi, was received by Mr. Paul Seurey, Deputy Principal – Administration, on behalf of Chief Principal Dr. Charles Koech. The purpose of the visit was to assess the persistent human-traffic conflict in the area, which has raised growing safety concerns for students, staff, and the general public.

Following a brief welcome session, the team proceeded to the highway section adjacent to the Polytechnic to conduct an on-site evaluation. The visit comes amid increasing traffic flow and pedestrian activity near the institution, particularly during peak hours, which has led to heightened risks for road users.

“This road section has become increasingly busy and hazardous due to the high number of students and residents crossing daily. We are glad that KeNHA is taking this issue seriously and working with us to find sustainable solutions,” said Mr. Seurey.

Eng. Mogosi acknowledged the urgency of the matter and emphasized KeNHA’s commitment to promoting road user safety, particularly around learning institutions. He noted that potential interventions under consideration include the construction of pedestrian crossings, speed bumps, footbridges, and enhanced signage and lighting to manage traffic and protect pedestrians.

“The safety of learners and road users is paramount. We are here to understand the situation first-hand so that we can propose practical and timely safety improvements,” said Eng. Mogosi.

TENP officials expressed appreciation for KeNHA’s swift response to their concerns and welcomed the agency’s collaborative approach in addressing infrastructural challenges that impact learning environments.

The findings from the visit will guide the development of a formal report and action plan, which KeNHA will share with relevant stakeholders in the coming weeks.
