Kisumu Governor Prof. Anyang’ Nyong’o has expressed deep sorrow following the passing of Mzee Gideon Baya Mungaro Snr, the father of Kilifi Governor H.E. Gideon Mungaro.
In a heartfelt message released on Sunday—Father’s Day—Governor Nyong’o extended condolences on behalf of the people of Kisumu to the Mungaro family, friends, and the people of Kilifi, describing the loss as a painful and deeply personal tragedy.
“It is with profound sadness that I learned of the passing of Mzee Gideon Baya Mungaro Snr, the beloved father of my colleague, H.E. Gideon Mungaro,” said Governor Nyong’o. “On behalf of the people of Kisumu, I extend my deepest condolences to the entire Mungaro family, their friends, and the people of Kilifi during this incredibly difficult time.”
Governor Nyong’o noted the particularly painful timing of the bereavement, as it coincided with Father’s Day—a day meant to celebrate paternal bonds and honor fatherhood.
“It’s especially heartbreaking that this loss occurred on Father’s Day, a day that holds special meaning for many of us. Mzee Mungaro’s passing is not just a loss to one family but to a community that drew wisdom, guidance, and strength from him.”
He remembered Mzee Mungaro as a respected elder whose values, wisdom, and legacy were evident in the leadership of his son, Governor Gideon Mungaro, and in the impact he made within his community.
Governor Nyong’o called on Kenyans to uphold the Mungaro family in prayer and to remember the importance of family, legacy, and service to others during times of grief.
Messages of condolence and support have continued to pour in from across the country, as leaders and citizens alike mourn alongside the Kilifi County family. Funeral arrangements are expected to be communicated in due course by the family.
